Autumn is here, and that means it’s time for cozy desserts that feel like a warm hug. This Caramel Apple Pound Cake is one of those simple, comforting treats that comes together quickly but tastes luxurious. It combines tender, sautéed apples with cinnamon and sugar served over slices of rich pound cake, finished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel. It’s an ideal dessert for family dinners, casual get-togethers, or a weekend treat when you want something seasonal without the fuss.
For ease and consistent results I use a Sara Lee All-Butter Pound Cake. Keeping a frozen pound cake on hand is a great shortcut: just slice what you need and return the rest to the freezer. The texture is light and the flavor is buttery, which makes it a perfect base for warm fruit toppings. You can change the presentation depending on the occasion—serve a single slice with a generous scoop of ice cream for dessert, or offer a few slices buffet-style and let guests add their own toppings.

The topping is straightforward: peel and slice crisp apples (Honeycrisp is a great choice for balance of sweetness and texture), then sauté them in butter with cinnamon and sugar until they’re tender and glossy. Those warm apple slices release juices that mingle with the butter and spices to create a simple sauce that soaks into the pound cake. Finish each serving with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and a generous drizzle of caramel sauce for a dessert that captures all the best parts of fall in every bite.

A quick fall dessert that layers sautéed cinnamon apples over slices of all-butter pound cake, finished with ice cream or whipped cream and caramel sauce. Simple to make and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
- 3 apples, peeled and sliced (Honeycrisp recommended)
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 (16 oz.) Sara Lee All-Butter Pound Cake (Family Size), thawed and sliced
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving
- Caramel sauce (homemade or jarred), for drizzling
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a non-stick sauté pan over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar evenly over them. Stir to coat all the slices.
- Cook the apples, stirring occasionally, until they’re tender and starting to turn golden, about 10 minutes. The mixture will form a light sauce as the apples soften—reduce the heat if the sugar begins to darken too quickly. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside.
- Arrange slices of pound cake on individual plates. Spoon the warm, sautéed apples over each slice so the sauce soaks into the cake.
- Top each serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a generous spoonful of whipped cream. Finish with a drizzle of caramel sauce and serve immediately while the apples are warm.
Tips: For extra texture, sprinkle chopped toasted pecans over the finished plates. If you prefer a less sweet topping, reduce the sugar to 2 tablespoons and rely on the natural sweetness of the apples.
