Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
  2. Sift the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt together into a large bowl to remove lumps and ensure an even texture.
  3. Gradually add the dry sugar and cocoa mixture to the milk mixture, stirring continuously until fully blended and smooth. Take care to avoid lumps.
  4. Fold in the peanut butter. For a marbled appearance leave a few streaks of peanut butter visible; for an even flavor swirl it in completely.
  5. Press the finished mixture into an 8-inch square pan that has been buttered or lined with parchment paper for easy removal. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Cover and chill the pan until the fudge is set, then cut into squares. The fudge is soft—briefly freezing it makes cutting easier. Store refrigerated.

Notes

This fudge yields a soft, creamy texture rather than a hard, brittle candy. If you prefer firmer slices, place the pan in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Keep leftovers chilled and enjoy within a week for the best flavor and texture.
