Tinker Bell Tea Party: Decorations, Games and Treats

We recently celebrated Kaylee’s birthday with a Tinkerbell tea party and luncheon for seven of her closest little friends. It was a joyful, low-stress gathering full of simple touches that made the day feel magical. As a special centerpiece I made a doll-style cake—every little girl should get to have one of these at least once. This was my first time assembling a doll cake, and I used the same quick ruffle frosting technique I’ve used before to get soft, flowing layers. Finally, I dusted the whole cake with edible shimmer powder so it sparkled in the light.

Finding a Tinkerbell doll that looked right was tougher than I expected—many mass-produced fairies have a different style than the classic character. I picked the closest option I could find, and now that she’s out of the cake Kaylee has loved playing with her. Using a toy as the cake topper keeps the party present and practical: the doll becomes part of the play afterward.

For activities, we focused on simple, hands-on crafts that suited young children. The girls decorated fairy wings cut from double-thick poster board, using stickers, markers, and glitter accents. I attached the wings with small clothespins so they could wear them easily over their clothes. We also made pipe-cleaner bead bracelets at a separate station and provided a small mirror and a tube of body glitter for “fairy dust.” Each child could choose a plastic ring to take home. The combination of wearable crafts and little accessories kept everyone happily busy and excited.
stack of small plates and cups for party
Tableware was charming but budget-friendly. I used small ceramic plates I found on clearance last year and paired them with inexpensive goblets that are perfect for little hands. Choosing colorful, kid-sized cups makes self-serving easier and somehow makes drinking water feel much more special—those little goblets were a hit.

We served a variety of finger foods that are easy for small children to manage and visually appealing for a fairy-themed party. The spread included peanut butter sandwiches cut into tulip shapes, cheese cut into hearts and teddy bears, grapes, apple slices, cheese crackers, chocolate-covered pretzels, kiwi, and Tinkerbell fruit snacks. There was also yogurt and water—since each girl poured from a small teapot-style server, water worked best. The selection offered a good mix of sweet and savory bites while keeping portions child-friendly.
I set up a small snack station in the kitchen for the adults with taco dip, additional chocolate-covered pretzels, watermelon, apples, grapes, and chips. That way parents could relax nearby while the kids focused on crafts and food.

The weather was cooling, so we held the party indoors. The space felt open and comfortable, and it was nice not to worry about wind or bugs. The girls loved serving themselves and refilling their little goblets—they drank a surprising amount of water, which was great to see. Letting kids participate in pouring and serving made the meal feel interactive and fun.
Each child left with a Tinkerbell-themed treat bag filled with small surprises and a giant pixie stick wand, which the moms appreciated as a nostalgic and inexpensive favor. These little party favors added a memorable finishing touch without breaking the bank.
The party was simple to prepare, affordable, and full of moments that felt special. With a few thoughtful touches—craft stations, themed snacks, a sparkly doll cake, and modest favors—you can create a memorable fairy-themed birthday that kids and parents will enjoy.

Here’s the birthday girl, dressed in her tutu from head to toe. I told her I’d paint her nails after decorating, and she enthusiastically grabbed the polish remover, cotton balls, and lime-green polish to match her outfit. It was her first party with friends, and she soaked up every moment—playing, crafting, and celebrating with her little circle of pals.
