If your house is anything like ours, slime has probably made an appearance more than once. Parents may be ready for a break from it, but kids usually are not. There is something about mixing, stretching, pulling, and squishing slime that keeps them entertained every single time. This New Year’s Eve slime recipe gives the classic activity a festive twist with shimmering metallic colors and optional glitter. The silver and gold look makes it feel special for a party, countdown celebration, winter break craft, or any day when you want an easy hands-on project.
This version uses simple slime ingredients: clear glue, liquid starch, metallic watercolor, and glitter if you want extra sparkle. Clear glue is ideal because it lets the silver and gold colors shine through beautifully. The finished slime has a glossy, stretchy texture and looks especially pretty when stored in small containers or set out as a party favor. It is a great activity for kids to make before the countdown, during a family New Year’s party, or as a creative project on a quiet afternoon at home.
Here’s what you need:

Silver and Gold Party Slime for New Years - the supplies

If you have made slime before, you may already have most of the supplies on hand. For this party slime recipe, the metallic watercolor paint is what gives it the pretty silver or gold finish. Glitter is optional, but it adds even more sparkle and makes the slime feel extra festive for New Year’s Eve. Small containers with tight-fitting lids are also helpful because they keep the slime from drying out between play sessions.

  • Clear glue — use a small bottle or a larger bottle if you plan to make several batches
  • Liquid starch
  • Silver metallic watercolor paint and/or gold metallic watercolor paint
  • Gold glitter or silver glitter, optional

Ingredients

  • ½ c. clear glue
  • ½ c. liquid starch
  • Gold or silver liquid watercolor
  • Gold or silver glitter optional

Instructions

  • Pour ½ cup of clear glue into a mixing bowl.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of silver or gold liquid watercolor to the glue and stir until the color is evenly mixed.
  • If you want extra sparkle, add gold or silver glitter now and mix it into the glue mixture.
  • Pour in ½ cup of liquid starch and stir well.
  • Keep mixing for about 5 to 10 minutes. At first, the mixture may look stringy and may not seem like it is turning into slime, but continue stirring and working it together.
  • Knead the slime with your hands until it becomes smooth and stretchy. Let it rest for a little while, then knead again until it reaches the consistency you like.

NOTE: This New Year’s slime may be stringy at the beginning, so do not worry if it does not look perfect right away. The texture improves as you knead it. Keep folding, stretching, pressing, and working the slime until the ingredients come together. After it sits for a short time, it usually becomes smoother and easier to handle. If you are making both silver slime and gold slime, mix each color in a separate bowl so the metallic shades stay bright and pretty.

Containers are very useful for this project. A tight lid helps keep the slime soft instead of letting it dry out. Smaller containers also make the slime easy to hand out as a party activity or take-home favor. You can make one batch in gold, one batch in silver, or prepare several smaller batches so each child can decorate their own. The glitter is optional, but it makes the finished slime feel more like a New Year’s Eve craft. Use the amount you like, depending on whether you want a subtle shimmer or a bold sparkle.
